Fontainebleau Chateau
In the heart of 17000 hectares of forest, the chateau of Fontainebleau was once one of the privileged residences of the French royals. The rich hunting grounds away from the slums & pollution of Paris made it into a regularly visited residence.
Renaissance Rooms
In the 16C the chateau was one of the major artistic centres of Europe. The Renaissance rooms, the only ones of their kind in France, still have their magnificent decoration of frescoes & stuccoes designed by the Italian artists, Rosso & Primatice, during the reigns of Francois I & Henri II.
State Apartments
A reminder of the splendours of the French court - the antechamber, salon, ceremonial room & throne room provide a picture of how the sovereigns lived.
